About The Stuart Funeral Homes
Our History
Kenneth A. Stuart established the New Florence funeral home in November 1960 after purchasing the former Ralph Wagner Funeral Home. Before opening his own business, Mr. Stuart served as a funeral director at the Carl Davis Funeral Home in East Conemaugh from 1948 to 1954 and at the A.A. Wagner Funeral Home in Johnstown from 1954 to 1960. From 1960 until 1973, he also operated an ambulance service alongside the funeral home—an example of his lifelong commitment to helping others.
In 1988, Kenneth’s son, Richard C. Stuart, graduated from the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science and joined his father in the family business. Their shared dedication led to the opening of the second location, the Richard C. Stuart Funeral Home in Armagh, in February 1997.
Conveniently located near the intersections of Route 22 and Route 56, our Armagh facility is easily accessible from all directions. Once the historic William Penn Grange Hall, established in the 1800s, the building has been thoughtfully repurposed to provide one of the area’s largest and most welcoming funeral homes. The spacious main chapel spans over 2,000 square feet and can accommodate over 300 guests. A smaller adjoining room offers a more private space for family gatherings, while additional seating areas provide quiet comfort for conversation and reflection.
Our Armagh Location

Our New Florence Location
The Kenneth A. Stuart Funeral Home in New Florence is the original of the two facilities. Located on Ligonier Street near the railroad underpass, it offers three visitation rooms, including a large chapel just under 1,200 square feet with a capacity for up to 150 guests. Ample on-site parking ensures convenience for visitors, minimizing the need for street parking. A second building at this location—once Wagner’s Livery—has been carefully preserved as part of our commitment to honoring local history. Throughout the property, visitors can find small signs and memorabilia that celebrate our deep community roots.
