Mrs. Rosemary Kathryn Csehoski (Pribelsky), 90, of New Florence, Pennsylvania entered into the presence of our Lord and Savior on May 30th, 2026.
Rosemary was born Thursday, November 21st, 1935, in Johnstown, PA. She is the daughter of the late August Anthony Pribelsky and the late Rose Francis (Dey) Pribelsky. Rosemary was a life-long Registered Nurse. She loved helping people. She was a devout Catholic and attended St. Mary's Church in New Florence until it closed in 2008. She then became a member of the Holy Family Parish of Seward, PA.
Rosemary had a celebrated career as a Registered Nurse. She received her training at Conemaugh School of Nursing and graduated in 1957. Her first job was at Raymond Hospital in Johnstown and then she transitioned to Lee Hospital in Johnstown. Back then mom was just starting our family. In those days, when a nurse was so far along in their pregnancy, they were let go. They would get rehired after a while. With multiple pregnancies, mom got to know the Johnstown Unemployment Office quite well. On day she received a phone call asking if she'd like a slightly different nursing job. Mom ended up working for Ebasco Services Inc. as the site nurse for 7 years at the Conemaugh Generating Station outside New Florence during construction. During that time, she was able to complete her family of six kids without fear of losing her job. When construction of the power plant was finished, mom went back to work at Lee Hospital where she retired in 1999. Not one to sit for long, she ended up working for Dr. Vittone assisting with cataract surgeries at the former McGinnis Hospital in Ligonier, PA. After 10 years there she finally hung up her nursing cap. Between working at the hospitals and the power plant, our Mom touched many lives.
Mom and Dad became restaurant owners while mom was still working at Lee Hospital. They purchased the old Dairy Nook in New Florence in 1978 and renamed it Rosie's Restaurant. They successfully ran it for 8 years until dad's health got poor and they sold it. Two of the children, Kevin and Donna, were workers in the family restaurant. The "famous" apple cake recipe they used at the restaurant can be found in the Bolivar VFD Cookbook.
Mom was a very outgoing person, a social butterfly of the very best character. She was a member of the New Florence Women's Club were for a time she served as president. She was also a member of the New Florence Red Hats group of ladies. It was something to see them all dressed in reds and purples at one of their functions. She loved interacting with folks. She was especially fond of going to the retired nurses' luncheons when she could. She was thrilled at one of the luncheons when one of her former instructors, who was over 100, was in attendance. She just beamed telling that story. These last few years she especially enjoyed having the neighborhood "girls" over for coffee or a meal. They always had a good time. From all her time working at the power plant and the hospitals she'd always run into someone she knew whether it be at a picnic, a basket party, a gun bash, or any other community event. Mom kind of knew everyone. She was always quick to prepare a meal for someone in need. For years she gave shots to those in town who needed weekly injections. She'd introduce herself to new folks like they were old friends. She was loved by all.
Mom loved her flowers, patio, and front porch with all its white wicker furniture. All were invited to sit for a spell on the porch and visit. As mom's mobility diminished, she'd go out in the evenings and sit with a magazine and read it cover to cover just enjoying life. She'd look around and admire all the flowers in pots, hanging baskets, and the flower beds. While she couldn't work in the flower beds later in life every one of the siblings knew when they were home, they'd have chores working in the flower beds. Even now, in spring, the gardens are a color palette of bright colors. She also enjoyed changing out her many flags almost monthly. She was excited to hang a newly acquired banner she had celebrating America's 250th birthday on the 4th of July.
Mom loved Christmas. It was a time for her to really shine decorating the house. She'd put up at least 5 Christmas trees with all types of meaningful ornaments. There would be knickknacks everywhere. She had a wonderful manger set in the kitchen bay window. She loved lights on the porch. If one of us was home around Thanksgiving, we knew we'd be stringing lights and hauling tubs full of decorations out of the attic. Every year, mom's house could have been photographed and put in any magazine for holiday decorating ideas. She was amazing at making the house look festive, just like the Hallmark movies she enjoyed watching during the holidays.
Mom was preceded in death by her late husband and our Dad, Donald Eugene Csehoski, who passed away in 1987 after a heart transplant. Don and Rosemary were married in 1957 on September 15th. She leaves behind five living children; son retired USAF Maj. Gregory Alan Csehoski and partner Cathy P. O'Meara of Leesburg, VA; daughter Valerie Ann Csehoski of East Concord, NY; son Kevin John Csehoski and Nancy Lee (Nelson) Csehoski of Huntersville, NC; son Douglas Eugene Csehoski and wife Barabara Ann (Fague) Csehoski of Aldie, VA; and daughter Donna Rose Sferra and husband Christopher John Sferra of Orchard Park, NY. She had another son, Brian George Csehoski, who passed away in 2003. Mom is survived by 11 grandchildren: Rebekah, Ryan, Charles, Alexa, Kevin Joseph, Justin, Eric, Brian, Darci, Victoria, and Olivia and several great grandchildren.
