Obituary

Shearer, Melvin P, 92, New Florence, passed away suddenly September 2, 2016. Born July 20, 1924 in Johnstown the son of the late Cornelius B. and Ima Jean (Clark) Shearer. Also preceded in death by wife Elizabeth J. (Slick) Shearer; brothers Francis J. and Robert L. Shearer. Survived by children Debbi Bloom and Dan Miller, New Florence; LuAnn Nixon, New Florence; Todd Shearer and wife Colleen, Robinson; grandchildren David Bloom, Mandi Custer, Sandi Robertson, Hollie Short, Nikki Wisner, Ethan Shearer, Elyse Brett and Kyle Miller; great-grandchildren Kobe, Mateea and Kade Short; Garrett Custer; MaKenna and Morgan Robertson, Aubree Bloom, Charlie Wisner and one soon to be born great-grandchild. Melvin served in the US Army during World War II in the 6th Ranger Battalion where participated in the Great Raid at Cabanatuan in the Phillipines and was awared the Bronze Star Medal for his actions. He was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, New Florence and a life-member of American Legion and V.F.W. post 7622, New Florence. Retired employee of Bethlehem Steel Corp. Avid hunter and fisherman. Friends received 1-4 pm and 6 till time of service 8 pm Sunday at Kenneth A Stuart Funeral Home, 139 Ligonier St., New Florence. Rev. Carole Corey officiating. Military rite by local veterans. Future inurnment Fairfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's Hospital, 501 St Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
