John L. "Shorty" Machak, 95, Raleigh, NC, formerly of Robindale Heights, died July 18, 2012 at his home in Raleigh. Born August 21, 1916 in Brownsville the son of the late Andrew and Mary Machak. Also preceded in death by son John Machak; daughter Becky Rummel; brothers Andrew and Albert Machak; sister Ethel Lavis. Survived by wife of 62 years Ruth A (Nixon) Machak. Children Gloria Harnish and husband William, Seward; Donald Machak, Raleigh, NC; grandchildren Bill Machak (Barb Malnofsky), Ginger (Mark Stepp), Heather (Scott Henderson), Renee (Justin Helsel), Shawna (Rick Kosakowski), Brock Rummel, Nicholas Machak, Emily Machak, Austin Machak, Alyse Machak; great-grandchildren Devin, Brenden, Kenzlee, Alexis, Jackson, Asher and Oren. Member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Seward. US Army of WWII. Retired coal miner from Conemaugh Mines. Proud member of the U.M.W.A for 77 years. Shorty was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. Friends received 2pm to 9pm Sunday at Richard C. Stuart Funeral Home, 392 E. Philadelphia St., Armagh. Mass of Christian Burial 10am Monday at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Seward. Rev. Robert Washko. Interment Armagh Cemetery. Military rite by local veterans organization.
