Howard, John W., 87, New Florence died March 17, 2011 at Excela Health Latrobe Hospital. Born April 4, 1923 in Fairfield Twp. son of late Dempsey Clark Sr. and Gertrude Amelia (Higgs) Howard. Also preceded in death by sisters Lillian Rummel, Mary Keffer and Gertrude Davis; brothers Dempsey "Bill" and Walter "Red" Howard. Survived by wife of almost 60 years Romayne (DeWitt) Howard; children Renee Takehara and husband John, Prescott, AZ; Wade Howard and wife Feng Zui, New Florence; sister Alice Rhoades, Latrobe. US Navy Veteran of WWII and Korean War. Member of Carpenter's Union Local 1419 for over 55 years and Keystone Trails Assoc. Friends received 2-4 and 6-8 pm Sunday at Kenneth A. Stuart Funeral Home, 139 Ligonier St., New Florence where service will be held 11 am Monday. Pastor Sharon Hamley. Interment Fairfield Cemetery. Military rite by local veterans organization.
