IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gertrude Irene
Garland
November 30, 1932 – August 4, 2025
It is with great sorrow that the family announces the passing of their matriarch, Gertrude I. Garland on August 4, 2025.
Gertrude passed away peacefully after a 22-year battle with cancer and kidney disease with her daughters by her side. She passed in the house she shared with her husband, James, for 62.5 years and where they raised their 3 daughters. She was born in Bolivar on May 5, 1933, to James P and Winifred (Wynn) Hall.
Gertrude held various jobs throughout her life but none more important than being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Her door was always open for company and the first words out of her mouth were, "Do you want something to eat or drink?"
She lived her life with great faith and her love for the Lord. She enjoyed her daily bible readings, word search books, cooking and baking, shopping and her flowers. She also loved to dress up and wear her jewels and gems.
Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 62.5 years, James R. Garland, son-in-law Thomas Petro and Daniel Burgman, brothers Francis and James E. Hall, and many dear friends.
Survived by her family who miss her dearly Cindy (William) Dillard, Sierra Vista, AZ, Lila (John) Saxton, and Polly Petro of Bolivar. Grandchildren Jason (Kathy), Carney, Shelley (Jeffrey) Lych and Jon (Randi) Saxton, Kris Dillard and Michael (Alexa) Petro. Great-grandchildren Cennedi, Erik, Cheyanne, Cliodhna, Brynn, Gadden, Jocelyn, Jaden, Brayden, Adalynn, Everleigh, Aurora and Kaydin, one brother William (Audean) Hall of New Florence and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her "younger" cousin Ethel Emerson, friends Rachel and Glenn Dillion, Becky, Janet, Irene, Marlene, Loki, Georgianna, Bill, Diane and Sharon Frampton who were always there for her.
