George Joel Wood, Jr, 79, Bolivar passed away September 7, 2025, at his home. Born January 3, 1946, in Wilkinsburg, the son of late George J. Sr., and Adair (Johnson) Wood. Also preceded in death by son George James Wood, daughter Christina Skewis, sister Kathleen Anne Eberts and sister Kathryn Eberts.
George Joel Wood Jr., a proud Marine Corps veteran, father, and grandfather, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 79.
Born January 3, 1946, to the late George J Wood Sr and Adair Wood of export. George spent his life in service to our country and his family. His life was a testament to the enduring power of love, loyalty, and service. George loved his children, Grandchildren, great grandchildren and all of his family. That love showed in his unwavering support, no matter what the situation. George wanted everybody in his life to be safe, healthy, and happy.
George was a proud patriot who served his country with honor in U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. George was a Purple Heart recipient who served three tours in the Vietnam War. George was returned home during his third tour, severely wounded. He received an honorable discharge in January of 1967. He recovered in Philadelphia where he became an active pigeon flyer and the father of the three children. When George talked about his children, you could tell they were his world. George tragically lost Christina Wood and George James Jr at a young age. He turned that tragedy into devotion to his grandchildren and surviving son Joseph J Wood. His grandchildren Meghan, Tara, Holly had become a beacon of light for George. He was so proud of them all. When George talked about them you knew he loved them. He respected and guided his son Joseph through adulthood. As George's family grew so did his sense of peace.
George retired from a long and successful career as a letter carrier for the Postal Service in Jeanette pa. His life was truly a testament to the values instilled to him as a marine and it showed in his service to his family as he was a beacon of Stability and love. To George, his family was the most important part of his life. He was a proud, and very involved father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He will be missed by All who knew him. George was proud of his hometown Export where for many decades. He spent his time there helping friends, family, and the community. He moved to Bolivar Early 2019 where he became a beloved member of the community. He moved to Bolivar in early 2019, where he became a beloved member of the community. Whether it was gun bashes at the Bolivar Legion or having a beer at the VFW, as George was an involved member of the Duane Boring VFW (Robinson Pa) post #9310. George cherished his friends as if they were family. He demonstrated his support for them in all aspects of life, whether it was sharing hoagies from the local deli La Manta Produce, bar chips at the VFW, or feeding the local wildlife, including kittens at his home.
His family ties were strong, and he cherished the bonds he shared with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, whom he doted on at every opportunity. George will be deeply missed by all who knew and cherished him.
Survived by son Joseph J Wood and wife Janine. Grandchildren Meghan (Skewis) Thompson and fiancé Louis, Tara Shultz, and Holly Wood. Great grandchildren Konnor Skewis, Luk Thompson and Thorin Thompson. Sister Danette Messier and husband Michael, niece Kathleen Messier, and cousins Kimberly Eberts, Raean Eberts and Sherri Boom. Also, former wife Patricia Eutsey.
Friends received 12-2 PM and 4PM till time of service 6 PM Sunday September 14, 2025, at Kenneth A. Stuart Funeral Home, 139 Ligonier St., New Florence. Rev. Fr. John Harrold officiating. Military honors by local veteran organization. Future interment Arlington National Cemetery.
