George D. Foster, Jr., 86, New Florence went to be with the Lord at his home surrounded by his family on July 14, 2014. Born July 29, 1927 in New Florence the son of the late George D., Sr. and Bessie (Ruffner) Foster. Also preceded in death by first wife Mary L "Mert" (Haynal) Foster. Survived by wife Barbara (Murtland) Foster; children Deborah wife of Richard Wozniak, New Florence; Sandra wife of Lamont McClure, Bethlehem; David Foster married to Eileen, Columbia, MD; and Ted Murtland married to Lynn, Boswell; grandchildren Lauren wife of Kenneth Pearce, Minneapolis, Minn; Evan Wozniak, Forest Lake, Minn; Stephanie Foster, Columbia, MD; Luke McClure, Bethlehem; Jacob and Mackenzie Murtland; Tiffany and Jarrod Barile, all of Boswell; and faithful companion Annie. U.S. Navy Veteran serving on USS San Pablo in the Sea Bee's during WWII and Korean War. Retired supervisor of Bethlehem Steel Corp. Johnstown. Life Member of New Florence Vol. Fire Co. and past EMT and driver for Laurel Valley Ambulance Service. Member of New Florence Lions Club, Trinity Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder and trustee, also attended Fort Palmer Evangelical Presbyterian Church, A.A.C.A., Laurel Highlands Antique Auto Club, Studebaker Car Club, Chicora Region Antique Car Club in SC; New Florence VFW Post 7622; Hood-Vanatt American Legion Post 307; New Florence AmVets. Graduated from Val-Tech in Blairsville to pursue his love of antique automobiles. Former Boy Scout and Troop leader in the New Florence area. Enjoyed his frequent trips to Myrtle Beach. He made a honor flight from Myrtle Beach to Washington D.C. George enjoyed spending time in his garage or helping someone in need. He loved being surrounded by his family. Friends received Wednesday from 4 to 8 PM at Kenneth A. Stuart Funeral Home, 139 Ligonier St., New Florence, where service will be held Thursday at 11 AM, Rev. Barry Young officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in George's name to either Trinity Presbyterian Church, PO Box D, New Florence, PA 15944 or Conemaugh Regional Hospice, 315 Locust St., Ste 5E, Johnstown, PA 15901.
