Joy and sorrow meet as we announce the passing of Dixie Lee Goodlin, who was called to her heavenly home on May 16, 2026, where she will embrace her Lord and Savior, and reunite with loved ones who have gone before, as well as her beloved canine companions who will be waiting to greet her at the Rainbow Bridge.
Dixie was born on September 13, 1938, the daughter of Keith and Dorothy Hewitt. She had been employed as a clerk for the Friel Coal Mining Company but considered her life's work dedicating herself to raising her two children: Keith (Brenda) Goodlin, and Kelly (Robert) Hicks. Loving family left to honor Dixie's life and legacy includes four grandsons: Bryan (Lorea) Goodlin; Joshua Goodlin; Casey (Michelle) Hicks; and Toby (Julia) Hicks. Completing the family circle are seven great-grandchildren: Ashton (Riley) Goodlin; Aidan and Katieri Goodlin, Cayden, Theodore, Jackson, and Owen Hicks., and sister Tressa (Donald) Ferri, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents, sisters Brenda Walsh and Warnette Warfel, and great-grandson Michael Norris.
Dixie was a woman of deep faith, a lifetime member of the Robinson Church of the Brethren, where she had served as a Board member and financial secretary for many years, but her true passion was carrying out the church's Card Ministry for more than 25 years. She so enjoyed sending good will, get well wishes, and prayers to those in need of an uplifting message.
Feisty and stubborn to a fault, a trait deeply rooted in the family tree, Dixie met every personal or health challenge head on with courage and determination. She was also affectionately known as the "Kissy Lady". No young grandchild, niece, or nephew was immune to lipstick marks on their cheeks left behind from Dixie's displays of affection. Sunday "Snoop Meetings" with her sisters and family friends were always a joyful experience, sharing abundant laughter and sweet treats galore. She rarely missed an episode of Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, celebrating each correct answer or solved puzzle with childlike abandon. A favorite pastime was relaxing in her sunroom watching the birds and deer. Her unique personality, silly quirks, and kind nature will be deeply missed.
Viewing will be held at Kenneth A. Stuart Funeral Home, 139 Ligonier St. New Florence, from 2 - 6 PM Tuesday, May 19, 2026, with funeral service immediately following at 6PM. Pastors Kim Sisitki and Gretchen Sisitki officiating. Private interment Germany Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Robinson Church of the Brethren, Robinson, PA or Concordia-IRMC VNA, Indiana PA. Until we meet again, save us a chair at the "Snoop" table, Dixie!
